I said I could never own a car because I couldn’t afford one, or a condo/house.
Little didn’t know I was purchasing a smaller version of the equivalent of one of the above when I made my pilgrimage to Quebec that this was exactly what I was getting with my little Hildy.
To start with she cost a bloody fortune, not to mention the investment of time, energy, and cost of driving 600 kms with someone who is even worse with direction the me, AND we had no map.
That was then, and this is now, and I love her to death. I had to spend a few bucks on her shots and initial exam.
Today she is being spayed, pretty routine I thought – my guess was about 389 dollars. Why that? Because I was there when someone had picked up their pup and that was the cost.
On top of it I fuck it up and left her food in her crate she who knows if she fasted. I bring down to the vet, explain what happened, and leave her there for the vet to call me to tell me if we should reschedule or not.
The phone rings about an hour later and it was the vet with the good news that we could go ahead and it today. The self-centered part of me was happy not to have to get up really early again.
However, she has some of her puppy teeth that are lodged in and not falling out. Apparently this is common with the small dogs. The vet wanted to know if I was ok with her doing that dental work of taking them out as they very often become infected.
This made sense as she was already out, but it also requires an x-ray as well. Plus being a small dog they like to give her IV fluids, another 80 dollars.
In addition they like to put in a microchip in at this time (I wanted one, I wasn’t thinking about it right away, but the needle is huge, especially if you weigh 2 pounds)
Then there are all the regular costs and meds.
Ripping out her uterus, microchipping, and dental - $800 dollars
The Hildy Cam – Priceless
